Kinsbourne Green, Harpenden,

Kinsbourne Green Methodist Church was closed in 2002 and demolished. The war memorial was moved to the walled garden at the nearby Luton Hoo estate, where some of the men had worked.

John Crew

John, the son of James and Emma Crew was born in 1895 and worked as a farm labourer. They livedĀ  at 53 West Hyde

He joined the Bedfordshire Regiment, 2nd Battalion, (10479) as a Private and died in action in France on 17th May 1915, age 19.

He commemorated at the Bethune Town Cemetery, France

Herbert Howard

Herbert Alfred Howard was born in Hinxworth, near Royston in 1887. His parents were Charley and Constantia Howard and they were living at Fiddlers Hill Cottages, Kinsbourne Green by 1911, at which time Herbert was working as a cowman.

He enlisted as a Private in the Bedfordshire Regiment, 1st Battalion, (37556) and died in action in France on 28th June 1917, age 30.

He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial

George Bozier

George Cyril was born on 25th April 1894, the son of George and Alicia Bozier of Kinsbourne Green. He worked as a farm labourer.

George joined the Bedfordshire Regiment, 1st Battalion (18779) as a Private and died of his wounds on 27th September 1918 in France.

He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial

Ernest Harris

Ernest Sylvester Harris was born on 15th June 1892 and worked as a farm labourer. His parents were John and Annie Harris of Fiddlers Hill Cottages, Kinsbourne Green.

He was a Private in the Bedfordshire Regiment, 2nd Battalion, (18614) and died in action in Belgium on 1st August 1917, age 25.

He is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) memorial
