Friendship House Football Team 1980

MAYC National Champions 1980

Eamonn Staunton is on the ball as Kevin Woods (5) looks on.
All the boys from Friendship House play football overnight to raise funds for Charity!

In May 1980, Friendship House YC from Wandsworth Road, London SW8 were successful in beating the Northern Champions from Liverpool 1-0 in the Football Final at the Royal Albert Hall. Many MAYC visitors to London may have stayed the weekend at this address in South London during the MAYC festivities and may have fond memories of the church and its buildings!

The football team consisted of Dave Bourne, Eamonn Staunton, Chris Douglas, Kevin Woods and Gary Sterling. Our substitute thoughout was Micky Cullen. It was an amazing day, a great weekend and a memory to cherish. The MAYC was run for many years by Maurice and Margaret Morton, who were highly respected in the community. Sadly, Maurice passed away many years ago but Margaret is alive and well and living in Oxfordshire!

  • Have just found this site. I had the honour of having a Margaret and Maurice As my youth leaders back in the late 70’s early 70’s. We went to a Morley Methodist youth hostel in Guernsey twice with them. Also did a Wendy house at a service at the Albert Hall for MAYC weekend. On marrying (a member of the youth club) in 1975 we kept in touch and even used their cottage in Oxfordshire. My name then was Glynis Lloyd and I am now approaching 66 !
