Rev Richard Keen

Dad

My father was Rev Richard (Dick) Keen.  He was a missionary in Ceylon during the war.  For part of his time there he was in Trincomolee and as there was a navy base there he often acted as unofficial chaplain to the sailors.

He returned to England as the sun was damaging his eyesight.  He married my mother (Mary) in 1946 and when asked by the stationing committee where he would prefer to be stationed, he asked for the West Country as my mother’s mother was ill and they lived in Looe.
Typically, the stationing committee sent them to the Isle of Man!!

He spent the bulk of his ministry in the Liverpool District.  From the Isle of Man (Douglas, Loch Parade Church) he moved to County Road in Liverpool, then to Wigan Mission, then Southbank Road, Southport, then to Westbourne Road, West Kirby, back to Liverpool to Brook Road, from there we moved to St Helens but due to ill health he only preached there once before he had to retire on health grounds in 1977.

He died in Southport, where he retired to, in 1998.
