Basingstoke (George Street)
Sunday School days
I was born in 1946, and was sent to Sunday School at George Street mission on Sunday afternoons. As a boy I was small, sensitive, better dressed by my mother than many children, and fairly clever (I later went to Cambridge). All this made me a natural target for bullying. I disliked (or perhaps dreaded) Sunday School, because my father used to drop me off a bit early, and the other children would bully me before the teachers arrived. I do not remember what we were taught!
George Street Mission has since closed down. I do not have a photograph of it in its Methodist days.
