The three men listed at the end of the roll of honour all survived the war. They were added after the original list had been compiled. They are only separated out because they are in not in alphabetical order like the original entries. At the bottom of the memorial there is a symbol similar to an asterix and the words “denotes members who made the supreme sacrifice”. Twenty of the men on the St Pauls Roll of Honour were casualties of the war. The story of all these men are told, along with photographs of many of them, in the book “A District at War (Irlam and Cadishead’s Part in the Great War 1914-1918)”. I hope this helps. Please contact me if you would like more detail.
