I have been very fortunate to be loaned a couple of pictures of our church’s early JMC collectors. Which I have been kindly allowed to scan for you. Unfortunately I have no other details than the Ministers names and the years.
I particularly enjoy the angel statue incorporated into the back row in the 1908 picture which you might not spot with a cursory glance. I am sure there are more than a few “angels” in the remainder of the picture!
The first is of the JMC Collectors annual picnic at St Julians farm about 1908 Minister Rev T C Legg.
The second is of the JMC collectors annual picnic St Julians Farm 1910 Minister Rev J W Almond.
I hope you find them as interesting as I do.
EDIT: Since publishing this page I have located another picture from the 1908 picnic judging by the setting and the similarity in dress of the children but with additonal adults present. Another mystery which will haunt me! It comes from the St Albans Own East End website and was donated to them by the Tuck family who were members at Hatfield Road in the past. It is reproduced with permission for which I am very grateful. If you are interested in St Albans history the site is fascinating there is even a picture of my road when it wasn’t a road at all! Access it here
