Women's Network

The Women's Network in the Methodist Church was formed in 1987.  It brought together the two women's movements in the Methodist Church at that time, Women's Work and Women's Fellowship.  Both movements had had an important role in the life of the church.  However, as the role of women in society continued to change, so women within the church were beginning to question; why have two separate groups of women, when both were looking at the contribution of women in church and society, the theology of home and overseas mission?   So, after much consultation and an enormous sense of pride in past heritage, where the foundations for the future had been well established, Women's Network was born.

Further changes and developments in Connexional structures in the first decade of the 21st Century led to the formation of Methodist Women in Britain in July 2011, a self-funding, self-governing movement for women, which embraced the earlier aims and some of the working methods of Women’s Network, whilst also incorporating the British Unit of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women (WFM&UCW).

Women's Network aimed to encourageenable and equip women to participate fully in the life of the Church and in society, principally through:

  • Training in specific skills
  • Conferences and events on issues and themes
  • Different styles of worship and ideas for worship
  • Campaigns in which women may be actively involved
  • Provision of information about other groups and resources
  • Mutual support through all of the above
